In formulating recommendations to be made to the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences for Salary increases based on merit (as distinct from across-the-board increases), the Chair of the department shall take into consideration: distinguished scholarly achievement; distinguished teaching; exceptional departmental or University service; professional activities and public engagement.

In addition, the Chair shall consider competitive market considerations; salary compression and equity adjustments; proximity to retirement; and the importance of individuals to the department’s overall efforts.

This policy shall be reviewed at five-year intervals or at the beginning of a new Chair’s term.
